Yesterday I sat down to dinner with a wise man who told me that he knew exactly what was going to happen in this war. He said that he'd seen these events once before, in 1982, when Israel Invaded Lebanon.
In 1982, the pretense was to stop rocket attacks into Northern Israel. In 1982, Israel Destroyed Beirut.   This wise man knows how it will end. You can read that in History books. Why doesn/t hezbollah go fight Israel from Syria....Why Lebanon? Lebanon has been trying to get back upfor the past ten years and now with this blow...it is over...
Look at this scenario: Israel has a pretty good economy, has good allies around the world.... Syria is full of lyers/criminals, is supported by Iran which both are regarded as countries supporting ism.... So instead of being allies with Syria why doesn't Lebanon work with Israel for a better lebanon instaed of Syria...oh may be the governemt....hum... Instead of blaming Israel why doesn' the blame go to Hezbollah? they are the Syrian/Iran supported group of extremist that do not do anything good to Lebanon but give it a bad reputation in the world... Hezbollah go to Syria and fight Israel if you want to... Lebanon does not need anymore bad reputation...Syria has got it anyway...and imagine how much shorter the weapon rout would be...
Patrick- its always the innocent that get the crap...I agree Lebanon should not be caught up in this mess, but I THINK its fear from hezbollah that keeps them from doing anything to defend themselves...However, I do agree that Isreal has a right to defend their country from these nuts, and further, hezbollah should know that the Isrealies have a memory like and elephant...they will get you...even if it takes years...remember the olympics?? My hat is off to Isreal, and I hope they teach those bastards a lesson.....

It seems obvious that Israel has been waiting for any excuse to invade Lebanon and destroy everything that the Lebanese people have worked so hard to build. The soldiers were not captured by the Lebanese government they were captured by Hezbollah. Why is Israel attacking innocent Lebanese people? They are not the problem, Hezbollah is. Maybe it's because Israel just can't stand that an arab country next to them can actually be gaining prosperity, who knows. They should be working with the Lebanese government to get rid of Hezbollah, not against them. I have Canadian friends who live in Beirut and are suffering because of Israel's destruction. Israel is as much of a problem as Hezbollah is, just look at the death toll. This war was started by Israel & the blood that has been shed is on their hands.

Ce message pour marquer ma solidarité avec le peuple libannais. C’est malheureusement tout ce que peut faire un petit français moyen qui est horrifié par ce qu’on veut bien lui montrer. Ici, contrairement aux Etats-Unis ou au Canada, la presse est relativement objective. En tout cas on ne plaint pas Israel. C’est d’ailleurs grâce au “Monde” que j’ai trouvé ce blog. Quand on voit les images de Beyrouth, on se dit que c’est une belle ville située dans un endroit paradisiaque. La bêtise humaine est donc sans limite. Rien ne peut justifier un tel désastre. Comme toujours, ce sont les gens ordinaires, les anonymes pour qui la vie quotidienne en temps normal n’est pas forcémment évidente qui ramassent le plus. Je réalise la chance que j’ai de vivre dans un pays comme la France. Bon courage à tous. Si les puissants ne font rien, sachez que de part le monde des gens comme vous pensent à vous.

and lebanon cant put up a fight and wouldnt thats another reason.. where syria would ..and so would some other countries come to its support. but only if israel attacks... another reason why its attacking lebanon to get syria into action mode and attack israel which will then summon the other two beast into destroying those countries.
I am Cali from Argentina and I just want to support the people from Lebanon in this irrational war. Like Patrick I don't really understand exactly the interets and reasons behind this war, but the only thing I can see is that many lebanese people are dying every day. They are just innocent people like us, who used to have a normal life; work, study, meet friends, etc. and once they just get confronted with this crazy war. I wake up every day thinking about these people and feeling useless. In our TV we can see how foreigners are rescued from Lebanon and how happy is the international community about it. But what happen with the millions of lebanese families that must stay in this hell, trying to survive every day. listening new explosions everywhere and feeling the lack of food, drinks, medications.... just basic things and what's worse thinking that maybe they could be the next to be bombarded. This is the horror of a war.
Israel has played always the role of the victim of the region, who has been irrationally attacked and hated for the rest of the contries around. The always wanted to show that they have been just defending themselves from the irrational hate of the islamic world. With this reaction against Lebanon, Israel is showing that they are irrational and aggressive. They do not contemplate that they are bombarding innocent civilians. They are showing the world that they are cruel and cold bleeded. I asked myself that's the reason why through the history they have been always hated ??? I have some friends with lebanese heritage here in Argentina. Their grandparents were inmigrants in this country. All of them hard working people, lovely men and women, generous, friendly. We have here a big community of lebanese origin people, which is very appreciated. Once again all my heart is with the people from Lebanon. And I hope all these madness stop soon. And by the way, Hezbollah is not an alien body in Lebanon, they are lebaneze! A war created Hezbollah and a war cannot destroy them. My sympathy to all those innocent people from both sides of the red line.
I am truly saddened by the actions of the Jews. Beirut is a beautiful city! I had to see how firsthand how Middle Eastern diplomacy works in 1989 when I was a member of the U.S. Navy.

if there's such a place on earth where man has to change... Middle East: Acrid smells of gunpowder and distress! No hopes of enduring solution as long as the enemies do not make the slightest change in their perspectives. Fights in Lebanon and Palestine will leave everything unresolved, except (with no certainty, though,) Ehud Olmert's political position and Mahmoud Amahdi-Najad's, because their respective electorates still trust in violence. On the Isreali side, Sharon, gone old and much less spurred by political ambition, might have avoided launching such an extensive attack. On the Muslim side, Ahmadi-Najad, whose letter sent to Bush (see #0026us) demonstrated that he was open to a moral, peaceful solution, provided the White House was willing to discuss it, can't help but support Muslims. So the situation has returned to the insoluble point of the problem, that David Ben Gurion—who would be appointed prime minister in Israel 30 years later—was clearly aware of in 1919 while already campaigning for Israel's revival, "There's no solution! There is a gulf and nobody can bridge it... We jews as a nation want this country, and the [muslim] Arabs as a nation want this country." I’m an Armenian born in Beirut and living in canada for the past 16 years. It’s so sad to see how our 2nd beloved country is getting destroyed by the people who call themselves civilized and “democratic” country. Personally I have never felt this sad in regards to what’s happening. I feel as if the world abandoned us again and put a blind curtain on ISRAEL’S mission to destroy our country… For what, no one knows “for 2 soldiers” I doubt that…. Who are they kidding? Westerners? YES… The hell with these so called countries who call themselves as being “democratic” and “civilized” why? In one hand they hold a pigeon and the other blood………. No one knows when this stupid war will end… My heart goes to all those people who are suffering in Beirut and may God bless and protect them in every way…. I am an American that has a question I would like for everyone that reads this blog to really deeply think about and then respond with their thoughts. Before I ask though, I want to say that my love and heart felt sorrow goes out to ANY civilian (Lebaneze or not) that is hurt in any form (physical or mental) due to this battle.
My question to everyone is this: What is necessary for both the Israel and Lebanon governments to be able to agree to an end to hostilities (Permanently!)?

Yes I remember all the people that were killed, but just because the people that performed the action were Muslim doesn't mean that all Muslim's deserve to die. If that is the case then all "white" Americans need to die for what our ancestors did to the Native Americans. But then again, when you break it down, "white" Americans came from many countries in Europe so I suppose all Europeans need to die too. It's a reference to the israeli invasion of 1982.
No matter how you see history, everyone might have enough details to "convince" that an attack is necesary. Within this logic, nothing will EVER change, and the DEJA VU, will always be present for Lebanon, Israel, Argentina, Panama, Colombia, Irak, etc etc etc....
What would happen if we overturn this logic, and no longer accept it. Start thinking that NOTHING will ever give a country the right to INVADE/ATTACK another one. And this is putting words to something that every day seems less present. I am talking about the term COUNTRY. Could we just focus for once on the fact that we, the people, everyone deserves the right to live... I want to do something about it. I have begun an initiative with other professional and amateur photographers, journalists and travellers named 'My Brother's Face'. The conept is simple, let's show the world that we are brothers, let's show the world and, mostly, the press postive images of each other...being human. We are starting with the Arab world because that is the most misunderstood. Here is an excerpt from a press release we sent out this week: We have been anesthetized by media photos of angry terrorists, fanatics and the dead so that no longer see the Arab world as human beings. Did you know that 40% of the Lebanese population is Christian? I support Lebanon with all my heart in this war! Do you know why this is going on like this? It is because the Western (Christian) world believes that some people are more equal than the others! Some people can afford more than the others! Every Christian has a small book at home, which he is tought to read and lead his/her life accordingly. It is BIBLE. Bible tells us that God has chosen ONE nation - Jews. They are the chosen ones. The rest are not. For the rest there is the New Testament (the 2nd part of Bible) which teaches mercy, forgivness, modesty. This will sound shocking but it is TRUE: Bible and the Christian teaching is the source of this evil and injustice what we see now in Lebanon. Chirstianity is really a very handy religin for the chosen ones: we do whatever we want, the fullish Europeans, Americans will support us anyway, because their religion (invented by us, Jews) teaches them to do it. But this is not right. ONE DAY IT WILL STOP! SOON.
