seems sukleen has halted its services in beirut due to the israeli bombardment of all trucks and heavy vehicles in sight... bicycles anyone??

in the few minutes I was looking at your pictures, the number of your viewers has jumped significantly. Perhaps the exposure on CNN.... I think a lot of people would like to send help directly to you (re: an earlier comment from a reader) but if the garbage isn't being picked up, what's the likelihood of receiving a care package?? Or a wire transfer, or anything else? If the picture of the grocery store is any indication, where can one spend any money for food? These powerful pictures just suggest the scope of what it is to live in a city under circumstances of invasion and war. How long will that garbage continue to sit, or the grocery shelves remain empty? Let people know what they can do to help, and they will try to do it. We can at least contact organizations like the Red Cross and UNICEF and open our wallets. If you're inclined and have time to share any suggestions of help that will impact you or your family, friends and neighborhood directly, we're listening. Thank you so much for sharing with us. You can also donate to the FPM (Free Patriotic Movement) who has hundreds of volunteers helping tens of thousands of refugees getting food, shelter and basic needs. UNICEF is estimating the number of refugees to be 500,000 so far (Lebanon's population is around 4 million).

So there is garbage piling up. Who cares? There are millions of poverty stricken children in places like Brazil, Indonesia and others that live in filth. What do the rich arabs do? Nothing. Bitch about being 'occupied'. If you arabs would leave the jews alone, they would not care about you.
Why doesn't rich Saudi or Iran give the Lebanese a place to live. They don't want the either.

Thank you for your candid chats and your excellant photos...we can no longer trust the sucky ass American slanted media. Your site is one of the only ones that we have found (grace a CNN bien sur) that will tell us about specific neighborhoods. We feel helpless here in the US and our family is in Beirut near Haamra. By the way guys, the real reason that the trash is not being picked up in areas where it is even "safer" - east Beirut, is that the Israeli's are bombing every truck on the road... any road... even Joubel (Byblos). One of the was bombed,, along with its driver, and it had medical supplies. Those of you in Lebanon. Hang in there guys.... We are thinking of you.
PS: They made a comment on CNN about the trash but didn't mention the reason. Of course, that would be a negative comment about Israel, which is not "encouraged" on CNN.

They were, in fact, your photos -- the ones (two) with the garbage bins over flowing and trash bags lining the street.(I had just seen them online a few hours before they flashed across the tv.) The credit was to BloggingBeirut.com. They said you were a young man living and writing about Lebanon, but mostly in Beirut. They were talking about how the internet allows news consumers a chance to see this war from every angle. They have a reporter in your city somewhere. Keep up your great perspective. Don't let big news guys stop you, and don't give up the ground work. It's much better without the four feeds and government counterpoint. I mean, who else would know that almonds are in abundance? It might not matter to Anderson Cooper, but it matters to me. (Blackberries are in abundance here.) Lots of people are tired of being dragged into political fights anymore. If the human heart could amass an army, my bet says a billion cupids would shoot arrows (they would probably sparkle like fireworks -- MADE IN THE STARS) and everyone would fall in love.
