I don't know why you were planting cedar seedlings in a recent posting. Could have been because they were sparse where you planted them. Could have been just because you are Lebanese and Cedars are Lebanese! Are the Cedars endangered in Lebanon?
Morocco has a problem with their Argan tree. It is endangered - not enough to go on an endangered plant list yet, but enough to worry people. The Argan tree has deep roots, is VERY hardy, and is one of the protections against the encroachment of the Sahara. Also, all parts are useful: wood for firewood, leaves for animal feed, seeds for Argan oil for cooking. That is, I think, one of it's problems. It is so useful that people cut them for their own personal uses!
I thought that replanting Argans would be an ideal project for bloggers in the Maghreb. On checking, I found that the Med Greenpeace group in only in the western Med. I will follow up on this, but thought you might give some advice on this as you have started your own project! My email address is below, and this is not the topic of your blog!
If you would like to take this comment off post, it'd be OK

Hello Hale. It's good to hear from a fellow environmentalist on the Mediterranean Coast.
Contrary to what you noticed, I was in the process of extracting said 'seedlings' in order to protect them from the munching goats.
After much contemplation, I realized that nature itself is capable of sustaining itself, if we provide it with a means of 'reproduction', in a safe environment.
Our pines are not endangered, but one does not need to wait until that happens to realize that this life needs to be nurtured proactively. It is difficult to stop someone from building on his plot of land, but it's rather easy to go in ahead of the razing of the trees and save those that can be saved - after all, there's a lot of arid, deforested land that can be reforested. It's just a matter of will.
If you need any particular advice, information, etc. you can post it on this blog. I'd rather we conduct a public discussion that would reach more than you and I.
Fink = Thanks. I WILL come to you for advice as the need gells.
Incidently, a pharmaceutical company in England named GD SEARLE hired PINK FLOYD to play for a company picnic back in - I think o 1965. I was consulting with GD Searle then and was in England and went to their picnic and that was the first time I heard and heard of Pink Floyd. They have been a favorite ever since.... Been to hear them lots, but that first time was EXCEPTIONAL!!
