this was the front cover of a major lebanese publication [magazine].
i thought it relevant to BloggingBeirut.com as its "superhero" style speaks much of the current state of affairs - where hope is rendered through the fictitious.
beautifully drawn, may he rest in peace

the photograph's perspective takes away from the fact that the virgin mary is two stories tall and resides on top of a five story church-bell tower overlooking beirut and roumieh

Vibrant with colour, energy, music and Lebanese humor, Bosta truly captures the Lebanese spirit. It depicts our country in a time of intense change, showing how the Lebanese identity is preserved throughout. The young dancers in the movie create their own version of the Dabke, finding inspiration in new and international trends, yet building on tradition and preserving it, as we Lebanese do so well.
Indeed, look around at the audience: you’ll find people young and old, dressed in western clothing, speaking a mix of French, English and Arabic, yet all this with the distinctive Lebanese style. Also in the distinctive Lebanese style, the audience adds its own commentary and humour to the package, possibly getting up to partake in their own Dabke when things start to get rowdy. --- review by nefertiti
Still in cinemas, with over 100,000 hits at the Box Office.
