FACT: GDP vs Debt

Did you know that the Lebanese Public Debt stands at 177.9% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Thus Lebanon makes $18.83 billion a year but owes the world $33.50 billion.

Which means that if every penny we make goes into paying off the debt, it would still take us around 2 years to break even.

(this figure does not take into account privatization of public services and sectors that might at best bring down the debt to 100% of the GDP)

So, if we all stopped drinking, eating, driving, shopping, and even shitting - without decreasing our productivity - for one year, we could theoretically get out of this mess.

The Green Vigilantes - Round One Complete - a Success

And so it was a cool summer morning, above the cloudline, that we set off as three vigilantes to salvage what we could of the newborns... before the feeding of the herd.

Descending upon the shaded slopes, armed to the teeth with tools, pots, and water, we extracted 12 pine trees.

They are now safely potted.

Growing to become able to fend for themselves, at which time they will return to their home.

...soon we will set out for more...
