so i got into a cab in the usa
said hello to the driver
who turned out to be lebanese
mid conversation he tells me he's heading down to lebanon soon
so i ask him, what's the occasion? family? business? que?
he responds with a, "i'm ashamed to say"
so i say, "do tell"
his response, "a politician bought me a ticket to go down for 3 days to vote in the na2abit el mhandsin elections"
he even offered to hook me up! problem is, once you're on the list you can never get off (kinda like hotel california's no checkout policy) funny thing is that the same policy applies to lebanese girls turned one-time prostitutes for a quick break (need money urgently or desperately) who find themselves being called up for duty until their glory days are over (you can't get off the list)
update - April 7 2008:
a friend of mine from saida just called me up to reaffirm the above anecdote. she said it's been going on for a while, with full planes chartered for that particular purpose...
