We hereby send you an invitation to participate in an Interdisciplinary and international summer workshop in Beirut, 'Public space: a case study on the concept of public space in Lebanon', from August 17 to September 1, 2007. The summer workshop is open to university/academy students and young professionals in the fields of architecture, urban development, art, sociology and political science.
The summer workshop is an initiative of Studio Beirut and its cooperating partners. Studio Beirut is a foundation, established by a group of volunteers, Lebanese (young) professionals (mostly architects, urban planners, designers and faculty members at AUB and ALBA) in close cooperation with the Dutch organizations Archis, Partizan Publik, Pearl, Chris Keulemans (former director of political and cultural center De Balie in Amsterdam) and Ole Bouman (director of the Dutch Architecture institute).
Theory classes and workshops are given by, amongst others:
Studio Beirut architects, designers, landscape architects
Bernard Mallat architect and faculty member at the American University of Beirut (AUB)
Michael Stanton architect in New Orleans and Beirut (former faculty member at the AUB)
Nabil Menhem architect and urban developer, director Flatscape
Tony Chakar architect and faculty member at Académie Libanaise des Beaux Arts
Martijn van Tol political science and conflict studies faculty member at the University of Amsterdam/Amsterdam Centre for Conflict studies
Ole Bouman director of the Dutch Architecture institute (NAi)
Lucas Verweij director of the Architectural Academy in Rotterdam
Felix Claus architect, director Claus en Kaan architects and faculty member at the Architectural Academy in Amsterdam
Lilet Breddels art historian and director of Archis Foundation
Ole Moystad & L.E.F.T. architets architect and faculty member at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, former faculty member at the AUB
Because Studio Beirut aims at broadening its network of individuals and organizations, professors and faculty members of the mentioned institutions are also most welcome to contact Studio Beirut for an appointment to exchange ideas or discuss possible cooperation.
